Sniff, Scurry, Hem and Haw

I read this book, thereabout seven years ago.. well, it did move me. I then lend it to a friend… she disappeared with MY book!! Annoying. Been looking for it, no more in stock where I usually frequent till a few days ago… So, I got another copy and this time, to stay. This is a book I’d recommend to have a copy tucked somewhere in that mini library to read occasionally. It’s a good motivator. DSC_0679

The contents is really a story that reflects us human, associating with life in real. About accepting changes and managing it. It is sure to touch anyone who reads it. How ~ is a matter of one interpreting it.cheese - who-moved-my

There’s four characters in it; two mice and two ‘littlepeople’ that is the size of those mice; housed in a maze. The maze is our day to day life and what we go through. The title ‘Who moved my Cheese?’ is exactly what it is all about… The Cheese disappeared! How did the four managed it… truly reflects us and our ways. Which one portrays you? or what you prefer to be.

  • Having cheese makes you happy…
  • Noticing small changes early helps you adapt to bigger changes that are to come.
  • Old beliefs do not lead you to new cheese.
  • When you see that you can find and enjoy new cheese, you change course.
  • The quicker you let go of old cheese, the sooner you find new cheese.
  • If you do not change, you can become extinct.
  • What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
  • When you stop being afraid, you feel good!
  • Movement in new direction helps you find new cheese.

…. and I am not a terrorist.

It was Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol… amongst the top Bollywood actors/actresses on my favorite list. A movie called My Name is Khan.

What is it about? hmmm… I am not writing a preview, you can find so many in the net.

It is a recommended movie for all though. Different from the other Hindi movies where you see them changing clothes a few times in a song. Directed by Kahar Johar… a distinguished director. I enjoyed it even more because it was mostly in English, so I needn’t worry much about translations.

As I was telling a friend about the movie, I was asked, “Which was your favorite in the movie?”  favorite??

I love the part when Ammi pulled young Rizvan who suffers from Asperger Syndrome and started sketching on a piece of paper. She drew one stick man holding a stick about to hit a boy and another of a stick man holding out a lollipop to a boy. Then she asked “Tell me who is Muslim and who is Hindu?” and the answer was, “they look pretty much the same to me.” Ammi said there’s only two kinds of people ~ good people who does good things and bad people who does bad deeds, no matter what their beliefs, practice, culture. No other difference!DSC_1472

solat4 Another was during the journey when Rizvan was trying to do what his wife has asked of him. While waiting for a bus, the couple that he befriended reminded him that it was almost time for the bus to leave; instead Rizvan kept saying “Namaz time”. Asked, “Now? Here? You should pray depending upon the place and the people around”. In return Rizvan said “No No No No, prayer should never depend upon the place or the people” “Only on your belief”. He then did namaz right in the middle of the dessert.

stoningThere’s another! When Rizvan was in a mosque and overheard a group of extremist led by someone from a higher social class ~ a Dr. !!    … I love it when he jumped back in and started to throw pebbles at the Dr. in the act of stoning a devil and called him “Syaitan!”

Watch the movie! With open eyes and open heart… only bad people and good people… No other difference. Actually, it’s a love story in our day-to-day life.

Writing this, brought me to reading about “al-nafs al-ammarah” and I took the liberty of reading deeper and deeper into it’s meaning. I’ll list it down here for you to read (some of it! I end up reading from many sites).

torn between two lovers

woman12 love27

There are times when a woman has to say what's on her mind
Even though she knows how much it's gonna hurt
Before I say another word, let me tell you "I love you"
Let me hold you close, and say these words as gently as I can
"There's been another man that I've needed and I've loved,
But that doesn't mean I love you less,
And he knows he can't possess me, and he knows he never will,
There's just this empty place inside of me that only he can fill"

Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool
Loving both of you is breaking all the rules
Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool
Loving you both is breaking all the rules
You mustn't think you failed me just because there's someone else
You were the first real love I ever had,
And all the things I ever said
I swear they still are true
For no one else can have the part of me I gave to you
Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool
Loving both of you is breaking all the rules
Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool
Loving you both is breaking all the rules
Couldn't really blame you if you turned and walked away
But with everything I feel inside, I'm asking you to stay
Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool
Loving both of you is breaking all the rules
Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool
Loving you both is breaking all the rules
Torn between two lovers, feeling like a fool
Loving both of you is breaking all the rules

Lost and confused in a maze of passages…

maze

"Life is no straight and easy corridor along which we travel free and unhampered, but a maze of passages, through which we must seek our way, lost and confused, now and again checked in a blind alley. But always, if we have faith, a door will open for us, not perhaps one that we ourselves would ever have thought of, but one that will ultimately prove good for us." ~ A.J. Cronin

The Charlie Schulz Philosophy

(This is marvelous!! Scroll thru slowly and read carefully to receive and enjoy full effect).

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schulz, the creator of the 'Peanuts' comic strip. You don't have to actually answer the questions. Just ponder on them. Just read this straight through, and you'll get the point.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America pageant.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor and actress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?
The point is, only a handful of us remember the headliners of yesterday.
These are no second-rate achievers.
They are the best in their fields.
But the applause dies..
Awards tarnish..
Achievements are forgotten.
Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners.

Here's another quiz. See how you do on this one:
1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Easier?

The lesson:
The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money...or the most awards.
They simply are the ones who care the most.

Men’s Guide ~ words often used by women

(1)

Fine:

This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

(2)

Dressing upFive Minutes:

If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3)

lips1  Nothing:

This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in "fine!"

(4)

Go Ahead:

This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

(5)

Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing.                (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6)

           That's Okay:

This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7)

: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . that will bring on a 'whatever').

(8)

 : Is a woman's way of saying #@!* YOU!

(9)

Don't worry about it, :

Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.
