Daddy, how was I born?

This is a cute joke that came in my mail. Just a month ago, in one of my group talk, it became a topic of discussion on ‘how to’ or ‘would you’ explain this to an inquisitive child. Being a Malaysian, this is hardly a topic anyone wants to go into unless cornered… (so, to speak).Well, my parents never explain-ed!

The Joke: (I believe the daddy must have been an IT guy) smile_wink

A little boy goes to his father and asks ‘Daddy, how was I born?’

The father answers, 'Well…, Son, I guess one day you will need to find out anyway! Your Mom and I first got together in a chat room on Yahoo. Then I set up a date via e-mail with your Mom and we met at a cyber-cafe. We sneaked into a secluded room and Googled each other.  There your mother agreed to a download from my hard drive. As soon as I was ready to upload, we discovered that neither one of us had used a firewall, and since it was too late to hit the delete button, nine months later a little Pop-Up appeared that said:

smile_thinkingDo you think it helped the child? At all?? smile_sarcastic

p.s. ~  Looking at what is going on throughout the world now, it is a responsibility of parents to explain this to children. It’s not only the scientific side of it but the emotional too. Children wants to know and curiosity can lead to many things, open many doors. Therefore, when something bad happens… it’s not the child that should be blamed but the adults who has on purpose, ‘forget’ to educate such an important subject.

A tribute to all mothers

 hmd

“A mother is the truest friend we have,
when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us;
when adversity takes the place of prosperity;
when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us;
when trouble thickens around us,
still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels
to dissipate the clouds of darkness,
and cause peace to return to our hearts.”
                                                                             ~ Washington Irving

“The mother loves her child most divinely,
not when she surrounds him with comfort and anticipates his wants,
but when she resolutely holds him to the highest standards and is content with nothing less than his best.”
                                                                            ~ Hamilton Wright Mabie

Why is grandma’s hair white?

One day a little boy was helping his mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. He suddenly noticed that his mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. image

He looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, 'Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?'
His mother replied, 'Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.'

The little boy thought about this revelation for a while and then said, 'Mummy, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?'

If children live with…

children

I first came across this poem while managing a play centre for children between six months to seven years old back in 2005. I copied it, and kept it, but misplaced.. (oh!! it’s there somewhere in the piles of books) it. I had no idea where to seek this, did not remember much except the “If children live with…”

However, it was my lucky streak when i found this book (it was the last piece) on the shelves of a book store… and grab it I did!! As what many comments you’d find here on the web itself, the poem, even though written just to meet up with the authors ~ Dorothy Nolte deadline for her column, has a wisdom that many would agree to.

I’m sharing this for the benefit of the young parents, as a gentle reminder to the seasoned parents and to individuals in understanding another persons character (the ‘what could have been the problem’ factor)…

CHILDREN LEARN WHAT THEY LIVE…

Footnote: the first image that comes into my mind when I read the lyrics were my parents..  remembering how they are , loving me as a child, with all their care.. concern. I am sure most parents are like this too…

So, I am dedicating this song to all parents whichever part of the world you’re in… salute.. for being a wonderful parent!!
