Born today?
Definition of birthday in a dictionary says it’s ‘an anniversary of the day on which a person was born’. Celebrate? Some do, many doesn’t. Why? many reasons…
There’s this acquaintance who received many warm wishes on his birthday, instead, his remarks was; “I am happier celebrating father’s day instead of birthday. I am not stopping anyone from celebrating their birthday but I too believe that no one should stop me from not doing so.” His excuse was, birth is not one of choice instead becoming a parent means more to him. Hence the choice of father’s day celebration. According to him, it is preferable to celebrate his ‘birth’ as a father instead of his birth onto the face of earth itself…
to me… a birthday is the day you were born to this world and this is not of your choice. TRUE. It was God’s! Only through God’s will one is born or leaves this world, to the very second, none other says another. Is it not then deemed fit to remember at least the day/date it happened? Human mind, understandings and beliefs… who has the right to condemn?
Celebration comes in many forms. Some have parties, some spend time with immediate family members, some with a special one, some on their own and some oblivious to it. Well… not a problem really. It’s all up to individuals. However, I, do make it a point to remember and wish as many as possible on this special day of theirs. As I’ve said, it’s your day. Your special day… the day that God gave you life on this world to experience.
I do celebrate. A small get-together with my immediate family members. We’d either have dinner or lunch together, some prayers thanking God for all that has been bestowed, small or big. Yassin and tahleel… for giving me yet another day to be here… to spend with the loved ones.
