Imagine how he has managed to capture an audience from all soccer fans during the World Cup tournament…
So, I believe the entire world was waiting… with anticipation… what was his final verdict? This is the first time he has had to choose between two non-German teams.
(CNN) Oberhausen (Germany), July 9 -- Paul the octopus has plumped for Spain to beat the Netherlands in Sunday's World Cup final in Johannesburg, South Africa. Two glass cubes were baited with mussels and marked with flags of Spain and Netherlands. And Paul went directly to the Spanish tank and ate its mussel.
Half an hour earlier, the octopus chose the mussel in Germany’s tank over the confines of those marked with the Uruguay flag. Broadcast on live TV around the world, Paul wasted no time in first choosing Germany to win their third place play-off match against Uruguay. Next up was the all-important World Cup final, for which he promptly chose Spain to succeed.
His ability to determine results has led to some anger from fans, who blame him for their team exiting the World Cup. Reports from Argentina after their 4-0 hammering by Germany said some were plotting to eat him, while others in Germany are also threatening the same after he called their 1-0 semi-final loss to Spain.
Der Spiegel suggested he should be "fried alive in particularly rancid chip fat and served in an authentically German, dark, dank, greasy spoon caff in a corner of Oberhausen, smothered in mayonnaise and gravy."
Spanish prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapareto joked after his country’s 1-0 win against the Germans he would offer protection to Paul, saying: “I am concerned for the octopus. I am thinking of sending him a protective team.”
Environment and Fisheries Minister, Elena Espinosa, added "I shall be at the European Council of Ministers and I shall be asking for a [fishing] ban on Paul the octopus so the Germans do not eat him".
But his keeper, Oliver Walenciak, said: “We know that all octopus have nine brains, so we know he has exceptional powers. “In the European Championships of 2008 he got one game wrong. It was the final between Germany and Spain and he picked Germany.”
And Walenciak says Paul is oblivious to the fuss he caused. “There are always people who want to eat our octopus, but he is not shy,” he said. “We are here to protect him, he will survive.”
Ohhhh!!! he has a competitor… and it says the opposite…

An interesting match it shall be…
