Crowning glory

Hijab and how it is being adorned… fashion and trends… it became such an issue lately. With emails and blogs even notes posted on Facebook.

THE E-MAIL:

“It's a trend nowadays that many muslim Malaysian women are into the new hijab wearing i.e. wearing a shawl-like syrian style hijab. I posted on my Fb status recently stating that I too, would want to wear the syrian women hijab style with high bun but unfortunately my hair is short thus cannot tie or do a bun at all.I also received few suggestions to buy fake buns online or at Arzu, KLCC.

I used to study in an arabic-medium school and had learned that when you wear tudung, you're not supposed to show any indication that your hair is long by tying your hair really high/do a bun until men can notice the
presence of your long hair eventhough you wear your cover/hijab. That
defeats the purpose of wearing a hijab. However, I can't remember the hukum whether it's haram or harus or makruh”

So, it caught my attention. Well, women being women… wanting to look pretty is normal, isn’t it? Probably, in the process… either out of negligence or sheer ignorance, the tendency to over-do is there. No, I don’t have these problem either… but if what was claimed is true, it becomes a responsibility of mine to help highlight and educate. So, I started to search for the said Hadith. It wasn’t enough to read from the mail, I had to be very sure. I couldn’t find using these:- hadith riwayat Ahmad, jil.2, ms. 223. and hadith riwayat Muslim. Hadith no 212. Finally, after hours of reading from so many links, and practically advertising for help, someone sent me the link.

Hair Gathered On Top of Head

Allah's Apostle said: There are two types, amongst the denizens of Hell, I have yet not seen them. One possessing whips like the tail of an ox and they flog people with them. (The second one) the women who would be naked in spite of their being dressed, who are seduced (to wrong paths) and seduce others with their hair high like humps. These women would not get into Paradise and they would not perceive the odour of Paradise , although its fragrance can be perceived from such and such distance (from great distance). ~ Hadith - Sahih Muslim, #6840, Narrated by Abu Hurayrah

- Women should not put all her hair up on the top of her hair like a camel hump. She may put it up at home as long as some hair lays on her neck still, but not when leaving the house in hijab where the hump can be seen to be under the hijab and drawing attention to her hair. When Imam An-Nawawi may Allah have mercy upon him interpreted the narration which is in question and which was reported by Imam Muslim may Allah have mercy upon him he said: "Their heads will appear like the humps of the Bukht (camels)” means they put a head covering and turbans and other things that are put around the head until she resembles the humps of the Bukht camels.” The Bukht camel is a kind of camels that have great humps, as explained by Ibn Hajar may Allah have mercy upon him.
As regards the ruling of making the hair in the shape of a bun behind the head, then there are some details about it which were mentioned by Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen may Allah have mercy upon him who said: “If the hair is on the upper part of the head, then this is forbidden, but if it is on the neck, then this is permissible unless the woman goes to the market, then in this case, it is considered as a sign of Tabarruj (displaying her beauty and adornment to non-Mahram men) because its shape will appear from under the Abaya (cloak) and this is Tabarruj and a means of temptation, so this is not permissible.
